Abstract

The automobile-transmission unit has a change-speed mechanism which uses the frictional inter-action of discs and rings, a motion-reversal mechanism using a planetary train. The sun-wheel of the planetary train is mounted on the drive shaft, and the satellite gears are mounted on the output shaft of the motion reversal mechanism. The discs of the speed-change mechanism are also mounted on this latter shaft. The rear gear of the planetary train may be mounted on a drum which is mounted rotatably on the output shaft. A clutch may be located on the interior of the drum and effects locking of the drum onto the satellite-mounting. The clutch may have inter-active rings actuated by a hydraulic piston.
