Abstract
The system provides thermal balance between two areas separated by a partly insulating wall. The medium to be transferred from the first area to the second is circulated through the wall to alter the efficiency of the heat exchanger formed by the wall. Where a wall has a constant rate of heat loss over its length, wall sections of partly insulating material of constant thickness can be fitted to the wall at intervals. For each of these wall sections the thickness of each part of the wall is calculated as a function of the coefficient of heat exchange desired, and of their insulating characteristics upstream on the direction of medium flow.
