Abstract

The dummy has a metallic skeleton which is about 80% of the overall mass. The skeleton is hinged at positions corresp. to human joints. Movement at the skeleton joint positions is controlled by adjustable mechanical systems and stops. The stops reduce the amplitudes of the skeleton movements to the normal amplitude of movement of a human being. The dummy has an exterior moulded covering consisting of fifteen parts formed from twelve moulds. Each part has an apparent density corresponding to that of the flesh of a human being at that particular part of the body. The skeleton has a fracturable rib cage, which is a mechanical model of the chest. This model is calibrated to ensure at least a fracture of the cage at a predetermined load level.
