Abstract

A device for twisting square metal rod to a determined length consists of a bed shaped as an inverted 'U', a fixed headstock and a moving tailstock. The tailstock is equipped with four screws, equally pitched at 45 deg. to the machine axes. The lower pair are adjusted by a hexagonal headed key and the upper pair are knurled. This permits adjustment for a range of rod profiles and also allows rapid loading and unloading opf the workpiece. The headstock is equipped with four screwed handles in the capstan, which also allow for a range of rod sizes. When the headstock turns the rod is held fixed in the tailstock, and as it twists it shortens, until the stop contacts the tailstock.
