Abstract

Between a bottom flange (3) of the crank case (1) of the internal combustion engine and an upper flange (13) of the oil sump (5) a seal (9) is vulcanised or bonded onto the face (11) of the oil sump flange (13). A sealing surface (15) of the seal is provided with grooves, pockets or sealing lips. In addition, bolt head washers (17), isolating the structure-borne noise, with cast-on guide rings (19) are provided, which, together with guide rings (20) cast onto the seal (9), prevent structure-borne noise bridges between the crank case (1) and the oil sump (5) by way of the bolts (7). Opposing stops (24, 25) prevent overstressing of the seal (9) when mounting the oil sump (5) on the internal combustion engine.
