Abstract

An apparatus is used to the measurement of the radioactivity of an object. It comprises a dowsing balance fitted with a pendulum which oscillates between two wooden electrodes. The first electrode is subjected to a fixed potential difference while the second electrode is subjected to a variable potential difference which is less than or equal to the fixed potential difference. The first electrode is placed in contact with a nearby object whose radioactivity is to be measured while the second electrode is placed in contact with a standard of known wavelength. Potentiometers are used to vary the difference between fixed and variable potential differences. A device of the voltmeter type is used to measure the difference in potential difference.
