Abstract
A synchromesh device for a gearbox has a drive member (32) connected to a double-conical synchronizing member (12, 22) by springs (35) which allow relative rotational movement of the members. The springs bias the members into a relative position medially between stops limiting the relative movement. The spring constants are so chosen in relation to the moment of inertia of the synchronizing member that torsional vibrations of the drive are isolated, i.e. the resonant frequency of the system comprising the springs and the synchronizing member is below the exciting frequency. Preferably the springs are leaf springs.
