Abstract

The fermenting vessel comprises a vertical cylindrical open-bottomed shell in the form of a bell i.e. like a bell jar. The bell can be lifted off and lowered on to a fixed base provided with an annular seal which forms a seat for the mouth of the bel in its lowered position. When the bell is raised, the outlet gap which appears between the seal and the bell has a cross-section which in area is not less than the area of the bell mouth. Within the seal, the fixed base is formed as an inclined plane which gravity discharge the contents of the vessel via the outlet gap. The top surface of the inclined plane is pref. made as a concave chute to guide the discharge flow thro. the outlet gap. Vertical displacement of the bell pref. takes place within rolling or sliding guides.
