Abstract

1,237,402. Plastics bottle. UNILEVER Ltd. 19 July, 1968 [20 July, 1967], No. 34531/68. Heading B8D. A pressure-resistant plastics bottle for carbonated liquids has its wall formed with a main part 1 adjacent a curved transition zone 2 which merges into a curved base 3 having a concavely recessed centre portion and a circular contact line a by which the base makes contact with a supporting surface. The weight of plastics material used is 1À25 to 2À5 grams per centimeter of bottle height. The transition zone 2 is in the form of a hyperbola and has a height H which is equal to or greater than 0À4 times the maximum diameter D of the bottle in the main part. The radius of curvature of the curved transition zone 2 is less than infinity adjacent the main part 1 and changes by decreasing steadily toward the curved base to a minimum radius of curvature at the contact line a of 0À15 to 0À3 times the maximum diameter D of the main part. The diameter d of the contact line of the bottle base is 0À4 to 0À7 times the maximum diameter D. The bottle may be of rigid P.V.C.
