Abstract

Fixed object return radar echoes with a constant phase relationship to a reference signal while moving objects return variable phase signals. The phase comparison of these signals is converted into digital words for elimination of fixed and parasitic echoes while retaining moving target echoes. It-phase and quadrature radar signal resulting from reception of echoes are compared (37) with reference signal phasing to produce signals (39, 41) which are then converted (10) from analogue signals into digital words. These workds give echo distance and are processed (48, 50) by combining part of workd from one exploration with part of another exploration to produce correction signals representing average Doppler speed. Further combination and processing is effected to eliminate parasitic moving echoes.
