Abstract
The identification system is relevent to long continuous components, esp. circulated electrical conductors with a dia. from 1.25 to 7.25 cm. The identify mark is in the form of a numerical code (12) printed on the end of a spiral-wound strip (10) of polymer material, which is long enough for the ends (14, 15) to overlap. The strip is, at least in part, capable of contraction when exposed to heat, the temperature applied being sufficient to contract the strip to give a firm grip but at the same time not so high that the polymer is caused to melt. To seal the joint, the ends of the strip are treated with an adhesive which sets at about the same temp. as that used to cause the shrinking operation.
