Abstract

The radiator for a water cooled engine has a set of vertical water circulating tubes (2) attached to horizontal plates (1) top and bottom. Above the upper plate is supported a trough shaped plastics cover (4) acting as a water reservoir. The plate has a flange (6) all round which almost completely encloses the beaded edge (5) of the cover. In plan view, this cover has both sides bent inwards, forming a very shallow V shape. This enables the cover to be made a snap fit, under tension. This tension is increased by a moulded in lug (10) at the apex of the V inside the beading. This is clamped against the inside flange of the plate (1). A sealing strip (7) is trapped between the underside of the beading and the interior of the flange.
