Abstract
The surface of the collector is assembled from a series of transparent sheets (1). Behind each sheet there is a honeycomb structure (2) with the axes of the cells perpendicular to the plane of the cover (1). The honeycomb structure is supported on another transparent sheet (3). The collector is enclosed by a concrete surround (4) and is mounted on top of a thermal storage mass (7) which is supported on a concrete base (5) in a recess dug in the earth. There is a spiral passage (10) through the thermal mass which carries pipes (11) through which water can be circulated. Absorption takes place on the surface of the thermal mass which is blackened and the honeycomb structure eliminates thermal loss from the absorbing surface to the atmosphere.
