Abstract

A lamp with a system of varying its light intensity uses a small diameter luminescent tube or cold light source which can be mounted inside tubes which are rotated and/or raised and lowered to vary the intensity. The lamp can be mounted on feet to stand vertically. The tubes which vary the intensity of the light are formed of alternate dark and light bands or of a special pattern of dark and light regions so that their interaction with one another has the varying effect. Either the inner tube or the outer tube may be moved. The luminescent tube itself may be one of the patterned tubes.
