Abstract

609,631. Colour lighting. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd., LOWSON, J. C., and MILLS, R. V. March 19, 1946. No. 8500. [Class 75(iv)] [Also in Groups XVIII and XX] An elongated light source 1 covered by alternate band 3, 4 of opaque and transparent material reciprocates within a tubular filter 2 comprising sequences of differently coloured bands B, G, R, the whole being surrounded by a diffusion tube (not shown). The light source 1 is reciproated by an electric motor and each transparent band 4 scans one colour sequence, B, G, R, so that the colour of the light emitted changes continuously. A cylindrical shutter device comprising overlapping adjustable shutter segments may surround the filter 2 to enable the amount of light emitted to be regulated. Arched strips of felt 6 to facilitate the reciprocating movement and annular pads 8 of black friction tape preventing the escape of light at oblique angles, are secured to the light source 1. In a modification, the light source is in the form of an annular shaped tubular envelope and the filter, of similar shape, is rotated or oscillated to effect the change of colour.
