Abstract

A display panel for posters, etc. contains a highly reflective transparent plate, placed in front of the display, and lit from the (pref. polished) edge. One surface of the plate is treated so as to throw light on to the display. The light is distributed through the plate by successive internal reflections. When a ray strikes the treated surface, part of it is deflected towards the display. The surface treatment, which must not destroy the plate's transparency, is pref. applied only to the side remote from the display. It may consist of a reduced degreed of polish, or of a thin coating of wax or varnish. The plate is pref. protected by a transparent screen.
