Abstract

Method for supporting and preserving perishable cargo comprises (a) placing the cargo on a support, (b) forming a closed chamber around the cargo by applying an impermeable plastics cover and (c) filling the chamber with a preservative gas or air sheath for the cargo. The support pref. consists of a pallet on which rests an impermeable sheet pref. of cardboard, over which are placed a plastic insert pref. of polyethylene, then a second impermeable sheet pref. of cardboard. The plastic cover pref. has an open end which is welded to the plastic insert. The assembly is simple and inexpensive and can be used for perishable or non-perishable foodstuffs which are to be either stored or shipped.
