Abstract

An alloy contg. Cu, Al and >=1 Mn and/or Zn with a structure of the beta-brass type which is heat-recoverable and which can be cooled from the austenitic condition to a martensitic state, is deformed when martensitic and recovered under conditions in which part of the deformation is not restored and shows incomplete stress relaxation in 1000 hours at 125 degrees C. Alloys have increased stability and thus allow the mfr. of objects using partial recovery, e.g. couplings, for long term applications. Ternary and quat. a loys of Cu, Al+Mn and/or Zn with beta-brass structures and exhibiting austenite-martensite transformation which are heat recoverable after strain in martensitic state but are stable at 125 degrees C against complete stress relaxation.
