Abstract
Electrode for electrochemical cells, comprises a porous fibre substrate, 0.1-3 mm. thick, made of organic polymers (1), and fitted with a conductor grid in contact with electrochemically active material (2) deposited to provide 0.1 g. of material (2)/cm.2/mm. thickness. The polymers (1) are pref. polyethylene, polypropylene, polyester, PVC, polyvinylidene chloride, vinyl acetatechloride copolymer, an acrylic polymer, PTFE, or regenerated cellulose. The conductors may form a complete grid using a cross-section of 0.03-7 mm.2 or an incomplete grid extending over 15-85% of the electrode may be used. The edge conductor on the grid pref. has cross-section 0.1-4.5 mm.2. The conductors can be made by casting molten metal onto the substrate with rapid cooling to prevent damage to the polymer.
