Abstract

A fibre optic end-fitting has a calibrated tube surrounding a bare extreme portion of the fibre. Inside the tube, the end face of the bare fibre is coplanar with the end of the tube and is centralized. A tube-support sleeve is provided, one end of which covers part of the tube while the other end covers the fibre and is kept on the fibre. The middle part of the sleeve, adjacent to the end surrounding the tube, has an internal diameter greater than the diameter of the bare fibre with which it is in contact. A connecting agent, inside the sleeve and the tube, ensure that the bare fibre is kept in position. The middle part of the sleeve has a lateral boring which enables the connection agent to be inserted. This agent comprises a polymerisable liquid (6) forming a cement which is injected into the sleeve and which ascends the tube by capillary force.
