Abstract

The lighting protection system is designed to be placed at the terminals (15, 16) of a transformer primary winding (4). The transformer (3) supplies from its secondary winding (2) the electrical circuit (1) to be protected. The protection system consists of ferrite ferrules (17) which reject high frequency waves. The ferrite ferrules (17) can be combined with a capacitive arrangement. That is an earth screen (1, 8) separating the primary (4) and secondary (2) windings of the transformer (3). the secondary winding being earthed at its mid point. With capacitors (19, 20) across the secondary (2) of the transformer (3). the mid point of the capacitors being connected to earth. The ferrite ferrules (17) are also used in combination with lighting convertors mounted on the primary side of the transformer (3).
