Abstract

Ceramic articles, e.g. turbine components, insulators, furnace components, etc. consist of an outer component whose thermal coefft. of expansion is 1.5% to 6% greater than the inner. Pref. both parts are made of silica nitride with an additive chosen from silicon carbide, mullite, zirconium, yttria, thoria, alumina, tantalum carbide and/or titanium carbide. The inner part is pref. thicker than the outer. One pref. prod. has an outer component made of 75-95 wt.% silicon nitride and 25-5 wt.% silicon carbide with thickness 50-85% theoretical and an inner portion made of silicon nitride with thickness 90-100% theoretical.
