Abstract
A hull for a sailing boat is designed to reduce drag, turbulence, and suction. It has a deep keel, strongly raked to the rear, and preceded by a low ridge, and with a fin each side, spaced from it. These fins slope outwards at an oblique angle to the vertical plane. The remainder of the hull has a gently rounded curvature fore and aft. The front part of each fin has a similar gentle curvature, but extends rearwards almost parallel with the water line. An alternative design has a hull which in cross section is wine glass shaped, i.e. the sides are deeply concave. Similar fins are positioned inside the concavities.
