Abstract

The cylinder lock has a curved slot (5a) which accepts a correspondingly curved key (13). The key moves sprung pegs (8,11) into the position that will allow the cylinder to turn. Notches can be cut in the key on the side that faces the pegs (8,11), which themselves may be on either or both sides of the key slot. The key has a corner (12) cut off the end to assist in pushing the pegs down. The curved slot hides the tops of the pegs from view from the keyhole, and that this frustrates the usual method of picking a cylinder lock with a wire.
