Abstract

This capacitor has a fusible link of pure-iron incorporated into its construction. The link (5) is connected in series between the foils of the capacitor and an external conductor. It is located within the foils and is protected by a refractory sleeve (6). The solder connections at either end of the sleeve prevent an ingress of resin into the sleeve. The use of pure-iron rather than silver enables a mechanically stronger link to be used for small capacitors. This design is simpler and cheaper than those using links that break after movement of an internal membrane.
