Abstract

Tubing having thermoplastic walls incorporating individual fibres 0.2-5 mm long comprising 5-45% volume of the wall structure and with the fibre axes oriented at >5, pref. 45-90 degrees to the longitudinal axis of the pipe. The tubing is made by extruding fibre filled resin between an extrusion die sleeve and a die core mandrel each rotating in opposite directions. Method is esp. for mfr. of reinforced pipes with an internal dia. of 400-1000 mm and having a short term, hoop strength of >4, pref. 16 kN/cm2 and a long term (50 year) hoop strength of pref. 12 kN/cm2.
