Abstract

New copolymers of (A) maleic anhydride with (B) cyclopentadiene and/or methyl cyclopentadiene dimer, and terpolymers of these cpds. together with cyclopentadiene and/or methyl cyclopentadiene monomer, are made by heating (A) and (B) in presence of a radical initiator at a temp. at which the half life of the initiator is 2h. max. The terpolymer is produced by copolymerising at a temp. at which the dimer is partly dissociated into monomer. The initiator is pref. a peroxy cpd. e.g. a peroxide, per ester and/or hydroperoxide. Used as stabilisers, dispersants, emulsifiers, sizes for textiles and paper, or as flow agents in floor treatment compsns. Also as hardeners for epoxy, alkyd, amineformaldehyde or acrylic resins.
