Abstract

Polymers or copolymers of N-vinyl-N-methylacetamide having a minimum molecular weight of 5000 are obtained by polymerizing in the presence of a non-oxidizing free radical initiator at a temperature of from 0 DEG to 100 DEG C. or in the presence of an oxidation reduction system. Copolymers with vinyl acetate, methyl methacrylate, ethyl acrylate, acrylonitrile, dimethy maleate isobutyl vinyl ether, vinyl chloride and styrene are exemplified. The polymers may be hydrolysed to produce poly(o -vinyl methyl amine) which is claimed per se. Conventional catalysts are used.
