Abstract

New tetrahydropyranyl-uracil derivs. are of formula (I): In (I) R1 is 1-4C alkyl and R2 is H, Cl, Br or 1-4C alkyl, or R1+R2 is (CH2)n, where n = 3-5; R3 is H or 2-4C alkoxycarbonyl; X is O or S). (I) are selective herbicides esp. useful for pre- or post-emergence weed control in cereal and sugar beet crops. Weeds controlled include Agrostis, Lolium, Alopecurus, Chenopodium, Sinapis, Rumex and Trifolium spp. A typical cpd. is 3-(4-tetrahydropyranyl)-1,2,3,4,6,7-hexahydro-5H-cyclopentapyrimi- dine-2,4-dione. In an example, this is prepd. from 1-amino-2-ethoxycarbonyl-2-cyclopentene and 4-tetrahydropyranyl isocyanate.
