Abstract

An electromagnet relay may be used as ordinary relay or as a permanent bistable memory device. The relay has a cylindrical part (3) carrying a magnet (6) and an electrical contact (2). The cylindrical part (3) may be actuated by a current-energised coil (5). When current flows through the coil (5), the magnet (6) moves towards or away from the coil (5) according to the direction of the current. During energisation of the coil (5) the moving contact (12) bridges two fixed contacts (1) or moves away from the contacts (1). On de-energisation, the moving contact (2) remains in one of the two positions. Stops (7, 8) are used to prevent the magnet (6) to move in-line with the axis of the coil. The cylindrical part (3) may be replaced by a spherical part.
