Abstract

A device for indicating the presence of high tension in shielded cables includes a bridge of diodes (2) connected across a capacitor (3) and neon lamp (4). One terminal of the diode bridge is connected to earth (10) and the other to an exposed contact point (5) connected between dividing capacitors (8) and (9) themselves connected between a power line (6) and earthed shield (10). The diode bridge is moulded in a compact housing with the rear lamp viewable through a window, which housing is removably plugged into a terminal in the cable. The dividing capacitors are built into the terminal in the screened cable, presenting a projection on the cable with a small exposed circular contact plate against which sprung contact (5) may abut when the moulded housing is plugged ove the projection. a second sprung contact provides earthing of the bridge to the cable shield. The housing also provides sockets from which outputs supplying a meter may be provided to measure the actual voltage in the cable.
