Abstract

Prepn. of a granular detergent compsn. contg. sodium tripolyphosphate and 5% organic surfactant comprises making a slurry contg. the sodium tripolyphosphate water, and 0.1-4 wt.% of a dispersed wax having a m.pt. of 35-125 degrees C and a saponification index 100 degrees. The slurry is then spray dried. The prod. is used esp. in washing powder based on nonionic detergents, the prepn. of which gives spray-drying problems. The presence of the wax, reduces the amount of hydrolysis of the tripolyphosphate in spray drying. Pref. slurry contains 10-70% pref. 35-55% of sodium pyrophosphate in the compsn. and suspension also contains 1-2% of an anionic surfactant, esp. a sodium (10-14 C alkyl) benzenesulphonate. Suitable waxes are a microcrystalline petroleum wax or a synthetic hydrocarbon wax; the wax is added as falkes or powder to form 0.2-3% of the slurry. The slurry water content is pref.
