Abstract

Moulding materials are made comprising (a) unsatd. polyester resins; (b) copolymerisable vinyl monomers; (c) catalysts; (d) the usual additives; and (e) a low shrinkage additive (I) comprising a copolymer of 2-10 wt. % of an unsatd. 3-6C polymerisable monocarboxylic acid, 15-40 wt. % of a dialkyl ester of an unsatd. polymerisable 4-9C dicarboxylic acid with 1-8C straight or branched alkyl gps., and styrene, opt. mixed with minor amts. of another monomer, in an amt. of 10-100 wt. % on polyester resin. Pref. (I) is a copolymer of acrylic acid, a dialkyl fumarate with 3-6C alkyl gps., and styrene, used at 25-65 wt. % on polyester. Used in prodn. of low profile dough moulding materials having low shrinkage properties, with the advantage that the additives do not cause sweating on the surface of mouldings, so that self coloured mouldings can be made without surface blotching and colour variations.
