Abstract

Sound absorber (A) consists of a substrate coated with org. polymer which partly fills the openings of the substrate. Porosity of the resulting composite material (A) is 1830 cm/min. at a press. difference of 12.7 mm water column. Openings have a cross-sectional dimension 0.05 (0.025) mm. (A) are used to reduce noise and echo, e.g. in closed rooms, conference halls, auditoria, sports halls, underground railway stations, passages, canals and conduits. Sound can be absorbed within a wide frequency range. In an example, sound absorber consisted of PTFE-coated glass fabrics.
