Abstract

Expansion roller for continuously drawing a moving sheet of plastic material has a rotary cylinder having an external wall with several parallel grooves, each groove contg. a sliding strap and equipment for gradually and consecutively stretching the straps as they are displaced together with the cylinder over a fraction of a revolution of the cylinder, and for gradually relaxing the cords as they run over another fraction of a revolution of the cylinder. The straps have a cross section in the form of a T, and are mounted so that their central parts form flanges installed in the grooves, and their upper cross parts form supported against the surface of the cylinder, a small space being present between the edges of the transverse flanges of each pair of adjacent straps. Formation of longitudinal pleats in the sheet is avoided. The sheet can be cut on the roller without cutting the straps, and straps can be replaced easily.
