Abstract

The electrochemical cell prevents collapse due to axial compression forces which causes the parallel electrode plates to slide over one another. The cell has a cylindrical shape with two sets of electrodes (positive and negative) arranged with their plates interlaced. The cylinder is closed by a cover cap. The edges of the first set of electrodes project beyond the opposing extremities of the electrode assembly block and form support surfaces for the bottom of the cylindrical container and for the cover cap. The cover cap may itself constitute an electrode.
