Abstract
The electronic decoy technique is suitable for use with electromagnetic autopilots on missiles. It consists essentially in creating fictitious targets by means of several coherent transmission sources separated from each other but able to be positioned totally or partially inside the danger zone for the objective being defended. The practical implementation involves setting up two or more decoy stations which are geographically separated. Each station is provided with transmission and reception equipments which operate alternately. The stations are linked with a programming calculator unit which measures the frequencies and relative phases of the radiations received from the missiles at the stations. The frequency, phase, and power necessary are then computed and an appropriate decoy signal is transmitted which creates a fictitious target, shifted azimuthally. The calculator unit may measure also the differential Doppler effect.
