Abstract

A pressure switch is used to detect an increase in gas pressure and to give a signal when this gas pressure has reached a set level. The signal is maintained even when the pressure is reduced to zero. The pressure switch has a stainless steel case (1). It also has a piston (3) and a chamber (1e) with three microswitches (4,4',4"). The piston (3) has an extension (3a) which actuates a strip (5) which can make contact with all three microswitches (4,4',4") simultaneously. A calibrated membrane (10) separates the gas from a chamber (1b) above the piston (3). On rupture of the membrane (10) due to an excess pressure, the piston (3) is displaced and actuates the microswitches (4,4',4"). When the pressure is decreased, the piston (3) does not return to its initial position and the microswitches (4,4',4") remain closed.
