Abstract

When a chemical product is prepared, the preparation process is generally carried out batchwise. Depending on the use to be made of the product, an acceptable tolerance range is defined for the value of a particular parameter. Batches in which this value is outside the tolerance range, may be mixed with one or more batches sufficiently far inside the tolerance limits to form part of a mixture in which the value for the particular parameter is within the acceptable tolerance limits. In a particularly suitable mixing appliance (Figure 6), eight containers (8) in combination are arranged above a collection vessel. The eight containers (8) are filled in such a way that each contains a proportion of all the batches to be mixed together. The first of the eight containers is then emptied into the collection vessel (10), whereupon this quantity of particulate substance is returned to the empty container (8). The eighth container is treated in the same way as the first. The eight containers (8) are then successively emptied into the collection vessel (10). This ensures that the lowermost and uppermost portions of the contents of the collection vessel (10) are well mixed.
