Abstract

Prepn. of the polyamides comprises polycondensation of diamines with P-contg. dicarboxylic acids, P-free dicarboxylic and/or amino carboxylic acids in a known manner and under normal conditions. P-contg. dicarboxylic acids of formula (I) HOOC-(CH2)2-P-(CH2)2-COOH are used, (where R is as 1-8C pref. 1-4C unsubstd. alkyl radical, esp. Me). The polyamides can be extruded at 240-300 degrees C in one and twin barrelled extruders into cords and tapes and injection moulded. They are suitable for the prepn. of fibres and filaments and esp. for the prepn. of constructional parts of electrical appatatus and constructional units in large calculating machines. In an example, 19.9 g. terephthalic acid, 16.9 g. bis-(beta-carboxyethyl)-Me-phosphone oxide and 31.4 g bis-aminoethyl norbornane are condensed at 275 degrees C to give, after processing, 58 g. P contg. polyamide.
