Abstract

Acrylic block copolymers comprise a first rigid and non-crosslinked phase obtd. by emulsion or soln. polymsn of (a) >=60 (wt)%, of a mixt. of 0-100% each of styrene and a 1-4C alkyl methacrylate, and (b) 0-40% of another monomer(s), and a second soft or rubbery, non crosslinked phase obtd. by emulsion or soln. polymsn. in presence of the first phase of (c) 20-80 of a 1-8C alkyl acrylate and (d) 80-20% of another monomer(s), e.g. styrene, acrylonitrile, alkyl (meth)acrylate. The copolymers are processing aids for PVC in high speed processing machines and prevent the processed compsn. from sticking to the surface of calender rollers, die lips etc. at high temps. Claimed compsns. comprise 70-99.9, pref. 95-99.5 wt. % PVC and 30-0.1 pref. 5-0.5 wt. % above copolymers. The copolymers also improve the heat resistance of PVC.
