Abstract

A cylindrical chamber has an inner lining (2) forming a grinding surface, with a spindle (4) passing vertically through the centre (3) carrying pairs of plates (5) top and bottom, between which are positioned equispaced trailing arms (6) which can swing freely about pivots (7) through the plates. Between each upper arm and the arm below, is attached a vertical spindle (9) with a disc (11) top and bottom, carrying a helical coil (10) made from tempered steel wire. When the drive spindle (4) is rotated, the trailing arms are swung out by centrifugal force so that the springs are forced against the inner lining, grinding the material housed inside the lining.
