Abstract
Protein fractions are produced from de-oiled rape press residues, extn. waste or flour. In the process the proteins are dissolved out of de-oiled rape-seed by (dis)continuous counter-current extn. with water at pH 7 or with aq. solns. at pH 7.5-10.2 proteins are consecutively pptd from the extract obtd., in 2 consecutive steps, by gradual addn. of non inorganic acid, e.g. HCl, at pH 5-6.5 (5.7-6) (protein fraction) and then at pH 3-4 (3.6) (protein fraction II). The fractions are washed with water or an organic solvent, filtered and/or centrifuged and dried. Used also for recovery of proteins from oil-seeds other than rape. Protein fractions can be used for human nutrition and can be mixed with other foods. They are free from insoluble carbohydrates and odoriferous or bitter components. Solid residue has a high fibre content and can be used as filler. Residual liq. can be used fermentation industry. The extn. allows 95% yield of proteins. The solvent is used optimally and the plant is small. The step pptn. allows complete recovery prepn. of several types of protein and high protein content of fractions.
