Abstract

Fireproof thermoplastics polyester compsns. based on polybutylene terephthalate contain 1-5 wt.% Zn borate, 1-5 wt.% Sb2O3, 12-20 wt.% cpd. of formula C18H12Cl12 (I) and 1-8 wt.% of a gelling agent. The gelling agent may be asbestos, silica, diatomaceous earth etc., but is pref. a bentonite. The compsn. pref. also contains 20-40 wt.% glass fibres. The compsn. does not form droplets of molten material when subjected to a flame. It can be processed and moulded by conventional means. The mouldings are useful in the electrical, electronic and automobile industries.
