Abstract

Acrylonitrile is prepd. by reacting propylene with oxygen and ammonia at 330-450, pref. 390 degrees C under ordinary pressure in the vapour phase in the presence of the compsn. of formula MoaCobFecXdOe (X is Ca, W, Cr, Zr, Ti, Zn, Mn or Sb; a is 12, b is 4-10, c is 1-6, d is 0-1.0 and e is decided on the valence of the elements except for oxygen, generally 40 to 70) as catalyst. The catalytic time is 0.5-5, pref. 2 seconds. Expensive bismuth is not used. The prod. is produced in high yield and high selectivity.
