Abstract
alpha.BETA-Unsatd. acids/aldehydes are made by the gas phase oxidn. of olefins withoxygen or air at 300-450 degrees C in the presence of a catalyst which contains oxides of Co, Mo, Bi and Fe wherein the atomic ratios of the metals are, in that order, 2-12:12:0.05-5:0.05-6. The catalyst provides a higher degree of conversion, operates with a higher concn. of olefins in the starting reaction mixt. and has improved selectivity and stability during operation.
