Abstract

The SSB modulator and demodulator for telephone systems, has a sampling frequency equal to four times the frequency of the carrier wave on to which the information signal is to be modulated. A sample of the carrier is multiplied with a sample of the information signal. The phase of the sampling process is chosen so that during one period of the carrier wave two positive and two negative samples are obtained. The product of the samples is obtained by changing the sign of two successive samples of the modulation signal in every four samples.
