Abstract

Continuous catalytic dehydrochlorination of prim. or sec 10-20C alkyl chlorides or alkyl chloride-paraffin hydrocarbon mixts. in gas- or liq. phase, is carried out in 1 step with a loading of catalyst =8 (3-5) vol/vol. hr. at 150-350 (200-300) degrees C and at 1-4 atmos. press in the presence of H2. Vol. ratio charge: H2 is 1:10 to 1:1000 (1:20 to 1:100). Catalysts contain Fe metals or their cpds. or mixts. of Fe metals or their cpds. and Gp. VIB metal cpds. or Al2O3 or SiO2, Catalyst is periodically regenerated by cooling charge from gas-phase temp. to liq. phase-temp. e.g for 10-200 min. or by roasting at higher temps. Paraffin-olefin mixts. obtd. can be (i) hydrogenated to paraffin mixt. raw materials for sulphochlorination or (ii) used in oxo-synthesis or for other olefin-depending processes. Conversions >99% can be achieved at high throughput velocities, without risk of side reactions, e.g. isomerisation or decompsn. Hydrocarbon losses are prevented. Prods. do not corrode press. hydrogenation vessels.
