Abstract

In a control rod, the first and second ends of which have different neutron absorption characteristics and are designed for controlling the powder distribution in a nuclear reactor equipped with a core of active length (L), a first part at its first end is composed of a first neutron absorbing material, a second part at its second part at its composed of a second neutron absorbing material and is situated from the first part at a distance of less than the length (L) while a third part lies between the first and second part and is composed of a material virtually non-absorbent for neutrons. In particular, the length of the control rod = (L). The control rod enables power oscillation in reactor cores to be balanced out without affecting the problem of rapid, emergency shut-down or addint complexity to the control rod operating system.
