Abstract

The stirrer drive mechanism is of the type comprising a motor, and a gear-box with pref. constant redn., driving a two piece shaft through a pair of ball races. The upper part of the shaft can be raised and lowered when the coupling connecting it to the lower part of the shaft is released. After the coupling is released, the seal housing can be secured to the drive housing and prevented from rotating. The two can then be lifted and lowered by the stirrer motor. No auxiliary lifting gear is required.
